Q.

Does Steri 'n' Stock® integrate with my Practice Management Software?

A.

Yes Steri 'n' Stock® can integrate*. There is an additional file called 'usepacket.exe' in the Steri 'n' Stock directory which completes the patient details automatically.

A button or link can be created in your software with the following command switches - [program directory]\usepacket.exe /UPpatientID [patient code or number] /UPfirst [first name] /UPlast [last name] /UPbirthdate [date of birth]. The date format must be date/month/year (e.g. 1/1/51 or 01/01/1951). Here is an example of the command when it has been run from John Smith's chart :-

"C:\Program Files\Steri 'n' Stock\usePacket.exe" /UPpatientID 000512 /UPfirst John /UPlast Smith /UPbirthdate 15/09/1972.

* Currently Exact (from v9 FP5), Oasis (from v8.24-059) and PracticeWorks have the Steri link. Other applications are currently waiting for the relevant companies to authorise/integrate. Please check back at a later stage for a status update.

Q.

Will I need to buy a barcode scanner?

A.

When you purchase Steri 'n' Stock a barcode scanner is supplied. If you only have the Demo version at this stage, you can either purchase the full product or manually enter the barcodes when you use them.

In some cases a different barcode scanner may suit the needs of your surgery better than the standard one supplied with the product (e.g. cordless barcode scanner). If that is the case we can show you a variety of barcode scanners that will suit your requirements. Please contact our sales staff for more information.

Q.

My packet cannot be used, the software indicates the barcode cannot be found?

A.

This can be caused by one of two things, a faulty scanner, or the scanner is having difficulty reading the label due to its location on the packet.

When you enter the packet into the system, check that the correct barcode has been read before clicking on the "enter packet" or "end batch" buttons. You may also need to reassess where you physically place the barcode prior to the sterilisation process.

When using the packet, try entering the barcode manually, the barcode may not have been entered into the system originally.

Q.

How do I enter the initial Stock items and the stock levels?

A.

This can be done in one of two ways...

1. You can use the "Enter New Item" area to add in the Description, etc. for each item. Initially you may find it faster to just enter the description and go back and fill in the other relevant information later.

2. You can use the Import CSV option in the maintenance area. This will import a single column CSV file holding only the stock description. You will have to go back and fill in the other relevant information later.

Once all the stock items have been entered, use the "Enter Stocktake" area, located under maintenance, to enter the initial levels. Once all items are entered you can print the barcodes and attach them to the stock items. Minimum levels can be added via the maintenance area also without the need to edit each individual stock item.

Q.

What if the items are too small for barcodes?

A.

Where the items are too small to be labeled, we recommend that a barcode be placed on the drawer or shelf for identification and to print a "selected Stock Items" report, which includes these barcodes. Keep the sheet(s) next to the computer and use this report to scan the barcode when the item is used.
